TERMINAL FLIGHT DATA MANAGEMENT PROGRAM – TFDM

Based on airport surface management concepts developed under NextGen direction.  TFDM capabilities will be incrementally deployed to provide efficiencies in the airport surface and terminal airspace by providing new integrated surface traffic control and management capabilities.  TFDM functions include Surface Collaborative Decision-making (SCDM), including departure scheduler and other airport decision tools; Electronic Flight Data (EFD); Enhanced Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Traffic Flow Management System (TFMS); and replace or integration of multiple systems in the National Airspace System (NAS).  TFDM will share data among controllers, aircraft operators, and airports so they can better stage arrivals and departures and manage traffic flow within terminal airspace for greater efficiency.  Stakeholders will have a shared awareness of flights on the ground and in the air, the ability to exchange data electronically, and a constantly updated picture of traffic volume and airport resources, which will help stakeholders to make flights more efficient from gate to gate.

We are looking for several candidates for Full-time Software Engineers permanent positions.

Positions are based in Eagan, Minnesota (USA) OR Gaithersburg, Maryland (USA)

Strong Java & C+++ knowledge with web development and web service experience.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

Successful candidates shall possess:

• An understanding of engineering issues and the ability to develop cost-effective solutions
• Experience in full-life cycle software applications development using an agile and waterfall methodology, to include engineering, development, test and integration
• A thorough understanding of Object Oriented Programming (C++ and JAVA programming language on a large-scale (>20 K-SLOC) development)
• Experience and/or knowledge of aviation/air traffic control
• Experience developing and creation with XML Schemas and Definitions
• Experience with Test Driven Development
• Experience developing graphical user interfaces using Qt.
• Familiarization with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA
• SQL knowledge is desired but not a requirement.

Candidates shall be responsible for any/all of the following:

• Articulating user needs and requirements from high-level user stories;
• Developing the design for the user interface framework;
• Developing client and server side components; analyzing and designing databases within an application; and
• Working in an agile environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

We are looking for several candidates corresponding with ANY of the following categories:

Level A

Career level typically with a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, scientific, or appropriate engineering discipline and two (2) years of relevant experience. Under general supervision, works from specifications to develop or modify moderately complex software applications. Assists with design, coding in JAVA and C++, testing, software and system integration, and documentation of programs. Competent to work independently on most phases of software systems, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases. Familiar with FAA-STD-026A NAS Software Development Standard, or equivalent. Experienced with structured software development and modern software productivity tools and techniques.

Level B

Emerging authority typically with a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, scientific, or appropriate engineering discipline and five (5) years of relevant experience. Under general supervision, formulates and defines specifications for complex software applications or modifies/ maintains existing complex applications. Responsible for applications dealing with the overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, large telecommunications networks, and/or advanced mathematical/scientific software packages.  Competent to work at the highest technical level in all phases of software systems, including design, coding in JAVA and C++, software integration, and system integration. Very familiar with FAA-STD-026A NAS Software Development Standard, or equivalent. Very experienced with structured software development and modern software productivity tools and techniques.
